Your Kingdom Come: Living Heaven on Earth
A 5-day devotional series on the Lord's Prayer and kingdom living, based on the sermon by Pastor Josh Hawkins at Fremont Community Church.
Day 1: More Than an Afterlife Hope
"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." - Matthew 6:10
"The time has come... The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!" - Mark 1:15
It is easy to relegate Jesus to the "minister of afterlife affairs," assuming His kingdom is only something waiting for us after we die. But Jesus began His earthly ministry declaring that the Kingdom of Heaven is here, at hand, and within reach. Wherever the King is welcomed, His life, healing, order, and peace invade our present world. Praying "Your kingdom come" is not a passive wish for heaven later; it is an active surrender to King Jesus right now.
Reflection: In what area of your life have you treated Jesus as a ticket to heaven rather than your present, reigning King?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are King today. Reign in my thoughts, my home, and my work. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in my life today as it is in heaven. Amen.
Day 2: Developing the Kingdom Accent
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing..." - Hebrews 10:24-25
When you spend extended time in a new region, you naturally pick up the local accent without even trying. The same is true in the Kingdom of God. A kingdom is defined by the DNA, tone, and culture of its king. When we stay closely connected to Jesus and regularly gather with His people, our values, speech, and reactions start reflecting Christ. We stop speaking the language of fear, gossip, and cynicism and begin speaking the language of grace and faith.
Reflection: Who is shaping your spiritual "accent" right now-the culture of this world or the community of the King?
Prayer: Father, transform my speech and my habits. Keep me rooted in Your body so that my character reflects the heartbeat and ways of Jesus. Amen.
Day 3: Asymmetric Power (The Mustard Seed)
"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants..." - Matthew 13:31-32
Our culture prizes what is loud, flashy, and instantly massive. We assume real power requires big platforms. But God operates through asymmetric infiltration. Jesus did not enter the world with an army of swords; He arrived as a helpless baby in a feeding trough. A mustard seed looks insignificant, but once planted, its roots and branches take over the whole garden. Never despise small acts of obedience, quiet prayers, or humble seeds of kindness-God uses them to overturn empires.
Reflection: What small seed of obedience is God asking you to plant today that you might be tempted to overlook?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, deliver me from the need for human recognition. Teach me to trust the quiet power of Your kingdom working in and through me. Amen.
Day 4: Active Risk and Endurance
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'" - Matthew 25:21
We receive kingdom entrance by unearned grace, but living in the kingdom demands active participation. In the Parable of the Talents, the master commended the servants who risked their resources to produce a return, but rebuked the servant who buried his treasure in fear. Following Jesus is not about playing defense or hiding our faith. It requires stepping out, taking holy risks for God's glory, and refusing to quit when things feel heavy. If you don't quit, you will see God's faithfulness.
Reflection: Where have fear or exhaustion tempted you to bury your gifts instead of investing them boldly for Christ?
Prayer: Lord, grant me the endurance to keep showing up every day. Give me courage to take faithful risks with the gifts and opportunities You have placed in my hands. Amen.
Day 5: The Surpassing Value of the King
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." - Matthew 13:45-46
The Kingdom of God comes to us freely by grace, but walking in it costs everything. You cannot be half-in and half-out. Jesus invites us into total allegiance-every ambition, every possession, and every relationship surrendered to His lordship. Yet surrender is never a loss. When the merchant sold everything for the pearl of great price, he walked away overjoyed because the treasure was worth far more than all he left behind. Christ is worth everything.
Reflection: What part of your life are you still holding back from full surrender to King Jesus?
Prayer: Jesus, You are the Pearl of Great Price. I hold nothing back from You. Take my life, my heart, and my all, and use me for Your eternal glory. Amen.
