Gazing Upon the Beauty of the Lord
A 5-day devotional series based on Psalm 27:4 and the sermon from Fremont Community Church.
Day 1: The One Request
"One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple." - Psalm 27:4
King David had countless responsibilities, pressures, and needs, yet when he stripped away all competing requests, only one single desire remained: to dwell in God's presence and gaze upon His beauty. Gazing requires time, intentionality, and a willingness to step back from the immediate distractions that crowd our vision.
Reflection: What is currently competing for the top position of your attention this week?
Prayer: Lord, remove the obstacles that pull my focus away from You. Grant me a burning desire to give You my attention above all else. Amen.
Day 2: Fountain vs. Broken Cisterns
"My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water." - Jeremiah 2:13
We often exhaust ourselves trying to carve out human solutions or temporary pleasures that ultimately leak and leave us empty. Meanwhile, the fountain of living water stands steps away. God calls us to stop settling for small snacks when He has spread a full table before us.
Reflection: Where have you been trying to dig your own cisterns instead of drinking directly from God's fountain?
Prayer: Father, forgive me for turning to things that never satisfy. Bring me back to Your fountain of living water today. Amen.
Day 3: Choosing What Is Better
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her." - Luke 10:41-42
Daily chores, duties, and work are necessary, but they must not eclipse our time sitting at the feet of Jesus. Mary chose to pause and listen to His voice. Religious activity without personal communion with Jesus leaves our souls dry.
Reflection: How can you create a quiet space today to simply sit at Jesus' feet and listen?
Prayer: Jesus, help me quiet the busyness around me so I can give You my undivided attention and receive Your fresh bread today. Amen.
Day 4: The Image of the Invisible God
"The Son is the image of the invisible god, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created... and in him all things hold together." - Colossians 1:15-17
God did not remain distant or hidden; He revealed Himself through Jesus Christ. When we contemplate Jesus-His words, His character, His cross, and His resurrection-we are beholding the creator and sustainer of the entire universe who loves us personally.
Reflection: Take five minutes today to slowly read Colossians 1:15-20 and meditate on who Jesus is.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for showing me the Father. Help me anchor my heart in Your supremacy and power today. Amen.
Day 5: Transformed from Glory to Glory
"And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." - 2 Corinthians 3:18
Where your attention goes, your heart follows. Whatever you spend your time gazing upon will shape who you become. As we continuously look to Jesus, the Holy Spirit polishes our lives to reflect His light, grace, and glory to those around us.
Reflection: How have you noticed your perspective or attitude shift when you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, transform my heart into the image of Christ. Let Your glory shine through my life to everyone I meet. Amen.
