The Spiritual Dimension

A 5-Day Devotional Journey to Awaken Your Spirit

"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless..." - 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Day 1: The Nesting Doll

Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:23

You are a tripartite being. Just like God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are made up of a spirit, a soul, and a body. Imagine a Russian nesting doll: the outermost doll is your physical body, the middle doll is your soul (your mind, will, and emotions), and the innermost, deepest part of you is your spirit.

We spend so much time caring for our bodies and entertaining our souls, but how often do we tend to our spirits? The spirit is the part of you designed to commune directly with God. Today, acknowledge all three parts of who you are, and ask God to help you prioritize your spiritual core.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for creating me intentionally-spirit, soul, and body. Help me to not just live on the surface of my physical and emotional life. Awaken my awareness to my innermost spirit today. Amen.

Day 2: The Breath of God

Read: Genesis 2:7

When God created Adam from the dust, his physical body was formed, but he wasn't fully alive until God breathed the "breath of life" into him. It is the very breath of God that ignited the human spirit.

You exist in more than just the three physical dimensions. You have a spiritual reality that interacts with the invisible realm around you. Have you felt disconnected or "empty" lately? It might be because you are trying to operate purely on physical and emotional energy. You need the breath of God to fill your spiritual lungs.

Prayer: Father, breathe on me again. Just as You breathed life into the dust, breathe Your life-giving Spirit into my spirit today. Give me eyes to see the spiritual reality around me. Amen.

Day 3: Born of the Spirit

Read: John 3:3-6; 1 Corinthians 2:11

Before we encounter Jesus, our spirits are essentially shut down-the Bible calls it being spiritually dead. When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, He said, "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit."

True spirituality isn't just mysticism-it isn't just trying to feel a certain vibe or do religious rituals with our bodies. Real Christianity happens when the Holy Spirit comes and intertwines with your dead spirit, shocking it back to resurrection life. If you feel numb, invite the Holy Spirit to revive your innermost being.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank You for intertwining Your life with mine. I don't want to settle for empty religion or mysticism. I want the real, resurrecting power of Your Spirit alive inside of me. Amen.

Day 4: The Spirit of Adoption

Read: Romans 8:14-16

When your spirit is brought to life by God, your identity fundamentally shifts. You are no longer a slave to fear, sin, or the flesh. Paul tells us that the Spirit we receive brings about our "adoption to sonship," and it is by that Spirit we cry out, "Abba, Father."

There is incredible power when a father looks a child in the eye and affirms who they are. The Holy Spirit is currently testifying with your spirit that you are God's beloved child. You don't have to earn your place in the family. Let that truth sink into your innermost dimension today.

Prayer: Abba, Father! Thank You for adopting me into Your family. When the noise of the world tries to tell me who I am, let Your Spirit testify loudly to my spirit that I am Your beloved child. Amen.

Day 5: Silence, Honesty, and the Spirit

Read: Jude 1:20; Psalm 46:10

How do we practically strengthen our spiritual dimension? First, we must practice silence. We live in a noisy world full of podcasts, music, and distractions. You cannot hear the still, small voice of God over the frantic noise of your life. Second, practice radical honesty with God. Tell Him exactly how you feel to clear out the emotional static.

Finally, pray in the Spirit. Yielding to the Holy Spirit through prayer builds up your innermost being, even when you don't know exactly what to say. Today, carve out 10 minutes of absolute silence. Be honest with God, and let His Spirit minister to yours.

Prayer: Lord, I quiet my heart before You right now. I lay down my distractions, my anxiety, and my noise. I yield my spirit to Yours. Build me up, guide me, and help me to walk in step with Your Spirit today. Amen.
