Animated by Unstoppable Purpose
In this sermon on Ephesians 2:4–10, Pastor Josh Hawkins walks verse-by-verse through one of the most powerful passages in all of Scripture.
When we were completely dead in our transgressions and unable to help ourselves, God—who is rich in mercy and boundless in love—met us in our mess, made us alive with Christ, and seated us with Him in heavenly realms. Salvation is not a product of our striving or religious checklists; it is an unearned, unearnable gift of grace accessed purely through trust (faith). When we stop fighting to save ourselves and step into God's flow of grace, we begin to walk in the good works and unstoppable purpose He prepared for us in advance.
📖 Key Scripture References:
- Ephesians 2:4–10 (Made alive in Christ, saved by grace through faith, God's handiwork)
- 1 John 3:1 (The Father lavishing His love upon us)
- Romans 8:38–39 (Nothing can separate us from the love of God)
- Isaiah 62:3 (A crown of beauty and royal diadem in the hand of the Lord)
- James 2:17 (Faith and works working in tandem)
- 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 (The Lord’s Supper & the New Covenant)
💡 Key Takeaways:
1. Rich in Mercy: God’s mercy and love aren't just things He does; they are who He is. Mercy always triumphs over judgment.
2. Alive from the Grave: God didn’t wait for you to get your act together. While we were spiritually dead, Jesus placed us in Himself, carrying us from the grave to the right hand of the Father.
3. Faith Equals Trust: Faith isn’t complicated intellectual theology—it is trusting God enough to stop catching yourself and allowing His grace to guide your feet, even when you can't see the ladder.
4. God's Handiwork: You were created on purpose for a purpose: to show the universe the incomparable riches of God's grace through how you love, forgive, and live.
